One of Edinburgh's top 678 most famous stairways 'The Scotsman Steps', has reopened after a £250,000 refurbishment and the addition of a major piece of unique "art".
The stairway/toilet has not only undergone a much needed facelift - a bargain at only £100,000 over-budget - but it now also includes an "art" project by Turner Prize-winning "artist", Martin Creed. In a monumental tea-break, involving a napkin and several packets of crayons, the idea was plucked from the Muse's bottom - that each of the 104 steps be clad in a different colour of marble...Martin's "major piece of unique art" (Edinburgh Council 'Outlook')
Creed was so totally, like, exhausted by the prodigious effort of birthing the "art" installation, he was, unfortunately, mistaken for one of the artists who previously decorated the stairway on a nightly basis and was thrown off the site.
Interesting! Good sketch... no idea if it's like him, though!
